NRS
Health, Safety & Compliance
NRS operates all sites to the highest standards of health, safety and compliance. We not only meet industry standards, we exceed them ensuring all staff, customers, suppliers, contractors and visitors adhere to our site regulations protecting all individuals from harm.
Health and Safety
Health and Safety is a number one priority for our business, we are committed to building a zero harm culture. We ensure our staff and subcontractors are fully trained and committed to safe working practices.
All our employees are trained regularly in on-site procedures and our quarry managers and supervisors all receive incident and investigation training.

Compliance
NRS are a responsible operator adhering to all legislative and regulatory requirements. We are accredited by FORS Silver, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 and our staff are trained and qualified under all required schemes.
As a testament to our commitment to quality and compliance, NRS have invested heavily in two in-house laboratories capable of carrying out material testing and classification, meeting EA guidance and legislation.
- BS EN 12620 Aggregates for Concrete
- BS EN 13139 Aggregates for Mortar
At Woodcote, Saredon and Meriden sites we hold Construction Production Certification (CPC).

Woodcote Laboratory
This laboratory is primarily used to test the quality of our quarried materials, as well as their chemical and physical properties.
NRS use both Endecott’s and Matest Sieve Shakers and hold a range of 200mm and 300mm sieves from 0.063um to 125mm. All testing procedures are compliant with relevant British standards and all the equipment is calibrated either in-house or externally.
Materials Tests are:
- Sample reduction BS EN 932: Part 2
- Washing of particle size distribution BS EN 933: Part 1
- Sieving of particle size distribution BS EN 933: Part 1
The following products are tested on a weekly basis for Woodcote Wood, Saredon and Meriden, for quality purposes and comply with the British Standards required frequency:
The following products are tested on a weekly basis for Woodcote Wood, Saredon and Meriden, for quality purposes and comply with the British Standards required frequency:
- 0/2mm Washed Building Sand
- 0/4mm Washed Concrete Sand
- 4/10mm Washed Gravel
- 10/20mm Washed Gravel
- 4/20mm Gravel (when required)
The chemical and physical properties are tested on a yearly basis with relevant Safety Data sheets, UKCA marks and Declaration of Performance available on request.
The Aggregate and Concrete Technician is fully qualified holding ACI-ICT certification for concrete testing, NVQ Level 3 Laboratory and associated technical activities, IOSH Managing Safely and Technical Member in the Institute of Quarrying. Additional training includes Highways Materials and Testing, MPQC Level 3 certificate in Safety Health and Environmental knowledge, Level 4 Construction Materials Technology and RPS Training for work with XRF/XRD analysers.

Environmental Services Laboratory
Our newest laboratory primarily carries out chemical and physical analysis of waste materials.
It is capable of testing and classifying waste materials using traditional methods as well as new and emerging technology such as XRF and QED. The laboratory is currently applying to UKAS for certification on XRF and QED sampling procedures and techniques. All testing currently carried out meets current EA guidance and legislation.
NRS have partnered with Waste Assess to independently manage and operate the facility on our behalf. Founder and owner of Waste Assess, Tom Harris, is a Chartered Waste Manager and technical specialist with a long and successful career working for the Environment Agency in a variety of regulatory roles. Tom is intimately familiar with EA processes and policy, particularly around hazardous waste, making him the ideal partner for NRS. Our laboratory currently has two full time, fully qualified, technical waste classification and laboratory chemists, with plans to expand the team in the near future.
Material tested includes:
Hydrocarbon contaminated soils
Heavy metal impacted soils
Asbestos contaminated soils / rubble
Demolition wastes
Utility wastes
Fines
Inert and non-hazardous wastes
Fly tipped wastes
Dredging wastes
